WAR FM is an emergency radio that questions the war rhetorics of the government. Is it your duty as citizen to prepare for war? That is the question WAR FM poses. The Dutch government invests billions extra in NATO and urges citizens to stock up on supplies, including an emergency radio. It promotes a rhetoric where war seems inevitable, unless we keep paying: to defense, to the arms industry, to our own fear. Why doesn’t peace seem like the goal anymore?&nbsp;This spring-loaded radio responds to that: a small, playful package with a heavy load. The found-object aesthetic of the object breathes crisis: to use it, you first have to pull out the safety pin. It is locked to a single frequency that only plays anti-war anthem “WWIII” by Abel and Sef. In doing so, the work turns the question back on us: is this really the future we want to be preparing for? Cardboard, plywood, metal, electronics, paint, and found objects. About the project I was asked to create a design for Standard Shipping: a&nbsp; challenge where products are created that will fit in standard shipping boxes which fit through a letter box. Foam Brick transforms this symbol of strength into something harmless. It comes vacuum-sealed in a cardboard box and expands upon arrival. It shows us how traditional forms of resistance can often feel powerless and ineffective. It also offers protesters-to-be an accessible way to get used to sending threats to organisations.Created with polyurethane foam, acrylic paint. How would a breaker box feel? On multiple places in an abandoned church, there are doors that for a brief moment, act as a portal to a Japanese restaurant and it’s back alley. These spaces are entangled and merged with the church.The confessionals of the church are spaces that derive their meaning fully from what happens in the mind. Sinning and absolution are ethereal acts. This project finds ways to entangle a place that is so ethereal with our tangible world. The intimate space of the confessionals offers an immersive, surprising, empathetic and interactive encounter with objects, where you get to know a dumpling and a breaker box in other ways than you knew them before. About this researchYour bread toaster, the dumpling on your polate, a rock in your garden. They are all entities in this world which are just as relevant as you. In my design practice, I invite humans to position themselves less superior, to take their place among all entities this world contains. Because they all deserve the same loving, humouristic approach that we as humans deserve. They all have their own worlds, worlds that can overlap and interact with each other. They are entangled and have agency. The world of a dumpling interacts with the world of my friendship.. With a playful approach and a sense of loving irony, my work is questioning the glorification of malleability and progression. In service of designwolf, I created the spatial design for this immersive experience that explores the (under)water world and our relationship with the ocean. Young visitors begin their adventure by leaping off the wooden play ship Storm and landing in a world shaped by flowy wooden slats and deep oceanic blues (with lighting by 50LUX). To create a warm, tranquil underwater atmosphere, I hand-drew each of the 100 wooden panels, resulting in a uniquely organic and wave-like space. The predecessor of Plons!, Professor Plons, is a well known and beloved exhibition with multiple generations of Rotterdam residents. From the first reactions it becomes clear that Plons will become a worthy successor! Collaborations Collaborations with local makers and Design I/O—who developed an immersive projection room—added even more depth to the experience. The exhibition is a rich blend of analog and digital games (Kiss the Frog), with spaces to play, crawl through, create, and reflect. The goal? To spark curiosity about the ocean and leave visitors feeling inspired and full of wonder. Kijk omhoog &nbsp;exhibition design for Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam ︎ designwolf.nl Designed in service of designwolf.For the first time in centuries, the art of the palace roof can be admired up close. These objects have been temporarily removed during the roof’s restoration. In our design, we chose to embrace the challenging and distinctive context of the Palace. Using contemporary forms and modern materials, the railing responds to the marble floor, while the mirrors literally compel visitors to look upward. From her usual place high on the roof she might go unnoticed, but up close she is an impressive 3.8 meters tall and weighs nearly 3,000 kilos — no storm could ever blow her over. Bringing a 3,000-kilogram sculpture into a historic palace without breaking the tiles required a carefully planned logistical operation. Her position in the exhibition was determined by the floor’s load capacity.
